Whats to gain by fine tuning with the Street Pro after canned map?
 

OK, Rinehart Motopro 45's are installed along with the SE Ventilator ... with my Street Pro I have also loaded the 107 Stage 1 map on board my 2018 Limited, bike runs well.

My questions are ... what gains will I make by doing the data gathering and fine tuning that map? How much of a difference does it make and in what ways?

If you do it right the bike will run smoother and cooler, idle nicely,, accelerate crisply, not pop on decel and just be a nicer more pleasant beasty to ride,

Actually I have not had that experience. I uploaded the canned HD Stg 1 tune then followed the HD instructions doing tuning sessions ... applied the suggested settings and while the bike ran fine I noticed lessened low end torque, on the positive side the fuel mileage went up 10%.

Unhappy with the low end I then went back to the stock canned HD Stg 1 tune, ran better but still not enough torque for me.

The best tune I have found so far is the canned HD Stg 2 Torque tune ... great low end torque but no question the fuel mileage went back down ... still getting about 41 mpg (US gal) so I'm not going to complain, the torque is worth the bit of gas.

With any bike mods, a base map simply provides a starting point for fine tuning. Swapping between different standard maps may give better results, but doesn't achieve the fine tune and running qualities that Hilly refers to.

How much will always depend on how close the starter is and the knowledge of the guy doing the tune. Rarely have I ever seen a calibration that is too rich or too lean. The lean or rich just depends on which area the calibration you are working.

If it was just about AFR. Everybody would be a tuner. IME I find most of my power with timing. Something most do nothing with.

Jason I by no means mean the tune would be optimised as you pros can do, I only mean it will be better than a stock cal or flash from the cal bank with improvments you can feel. I tell everyone that asks about it the same thing, if you have access to a decent tuner then stump up for it if you can as it will be way better than what I can do road tuning.

All my previous bikes have had motor mods done right from the get go. 6 dyno tunes in my life.
Granted, they made good power and got great mileage, but smoothness was out the window.
Yesterday I bought a 2019 RG and it is by far the smoothest running Harley I’ve owned and everybody says the SEPST are strangulated and not worth it? I have no idea what map or tinkering the dealer did to it but she’s smoother than TTS or the Powervision tunes I’ve ever had.
