Tuning '17 FXSE 117" with SESTP
Morning,
Bike is currently tuned with the warranty / EPA compliant Pro Street Tuner. I have the unit, software and cables.
I would like to tune the bike with an Orange Super Tuner Pro. 32109-08C for more flexibilty and I can swap back to warranty tune easy enough.
Will my current software work with the Orange box or do i need older versions of the same software? Does the software recognize the older box and then download the tunes appropriate for that box?
Will my Smart Tune still work? Or does the orange box even have this function.
Thanks very much for any help

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. The computer software is the same, the Pro Super Tuner has the record feature so that you can fine tune your bike. The Pro Super Tuner has more fuel and timing adjust ability than the Street Tuner has. Once you get the tune to where you are happy with it, save it with a file name you can get back to quickly for when you have to go back to the Street Tuner for your warranty work.

That means history is: the original unrestricted “SEPST” was black.
The upgraded “SEPST” was orange
The restricted “Street Tuner” came out and it was black.
The unrestricted “SEPST” is discontinued and now I saw an an orange restricted “Street Tuner”.
It’s Harley so go figger...

The amount of usefulness the Super Tuner has over the Street Tuner is ... unbelievable.
so much more room for adjustment than the warranty / EPA tune. I was almost overwhelmed.
The map for my engine in the Street Tuner and the map in the Super Tuner are identical but ofcourse the Super Tuner map is fully unlocked. I did notice the Super Tuner defaults to an injector size of 4.982 so i have changed that to 5.332 and then copied over my VE tables from the current tune in my bike so it has the same starting point and not so far to go.
With the timing tables, 44 degrees of spark advance at 3000rpm and then 45 degrees from 3500 to red line seems excessive... Can i cut back the timing tables or should i leave them alone? is there a rule of thumb for the 117 HD kit? thanks!

Don’t get caught up evaluating a calibration without experience. Just looking at a calibration will not help you know what’s up with the tune. Proper measuring equipment and experience gets you there.
For example, 45 degs at light load and throttle position is very common and normal. 45 degs at high loads and throttle positions is absurd.
Knowing how the system works and where to make changes is paramount to getting started tuning.
Unfortunatley there are no shortcuts to tuning and it takes a commitment of time and effort to get the knowledge to get your bike to run its best.

Thanks Bob,
I'm kinda surprised at the lack of hard information there is out there. A couple days with google and reading countless threads and there isn't really anything.
HD has sold countless numbers of the 117 kit and people use many different tuners but then no one talks about the actual tune. Just a lot of "these are my parts and look at my dyno graph"

Gents,
I have an engine recording i made today and im happy with the engine is running but i am getting some slight knock retard in the rear cylinder. I can upload / email some folks the .hdx file and have a look? looks like 3500-4000 rpm and 90+% throttle is the issue.
