Bird Strike!

So I am riding down the road today doing about 60 mph. I see a turkey on the left side of the road and it looks like it is going to cross the street. I blow my horn but it starts to cross anyway. I grab a handful of brake, the turkey sees me and tries to fly away. I take a 15 to 20 pound bird strike to the left side of the fairing. I turns the spot light all the way to the left, cracks the outer fairing, bends the fairing supports so that the faring is not straight anymore, and scares the beejezess out of me. Have to call the insurance now and start the process to get the bike fixed. On the plus side I am OK other than a case of the nerves.

That turkey was an April fool.

Glad you're Okay. I live in a rural section of Florida and have killed quite a few deer, hogs and turkeys. When riding I can't help but think of the irony of being the hunted.

Wow, glad you kept the bike up and you're ok.

Bird that size must have been a Tom. T-Bird.
What are the odds.

I got to thinking about the size. It seemed huge when it flew up and I hit the thing, but upon further review if it had been over 15 pounds it probably would have done a lot more damage. So I am going to lower my estimate to 10 lbs. But I still think it looked like a 747 when it took wing in front of me.:icon_omg:

never had to dodge a turkey but hit a buzzard with my 04 2500 HD once.. 2000.00 worth of damage. This one waited until the last minute to fly then came right into my path.....

glad to hear you're ok.....

I took a Starling to the chest doing 70 and that felt like I got punched. A turkey woulda separated me from the bike!
