I don't think I've ever had the DMV here even look at the physical VIN on a vehicle. The paperwork is all they go by, and the VIN should match the frame. If you get pulled over, that's all the cop will look at.

Shouldn't have a problem at DMV but if you get pulled over it could become an issue if the Cop checks both numbers.
Happened to a friend riding Deals Gap. Tenn. Troopers were checking everything. His numbers didn't match due to a replacement motor. They ruined his week. Towed the bike, he had to prove origin and of course all his paperwork was back here in Florida.

In Cape Coral Fl, they physically take the title outside, make you bring the bike around and compare the VIN on the bike to the VIN on the title. Have registered 3 bike here and they always look at the VIN on the neck. I know the motor and frame VIN are supposed to match, but have never had anyone look at the motor.
That's my experience.....yours may vary!!!

I'm waiting for the MOCO to approve a new motor for my Fat Boy and they will be stamping it with the VIN. It's going to be a long 30 days.

If the bike is not titled in Florida they will verify the vin on the neck before giving you a Florida title. It would be wise to have a motorized bill of sale for the motor. If the motor is not on the hot sheet as bring stolen you are good to go. I went through this and went to a local cop shop that verified the motor was not stolen and took that to DMV just in case

Same thing happened to a buddy of mine. DMV might not care but some of the cops do. Maybe they were just messing with him but spent an hour of so with the cops. Vin on the bike and Vin on the motor were different. Had to get a family member to bring paper work on the motor or they were going to tow it. He carry's the paperwork with him now. Big pain in the butt.

Here in Volusia County, I have never had anyone even look at the bike. I don't think you need to take the bike. Just have the title and pay.

As far as registering is concerned I have never registered anything in Florida, including a home made trailer, where the clerk even looked outside the window, let alone go and try to find a vin number.

They go by the bike's VIN.
