Perfect Florida Riding Weather - Who Went Where?
#161
I did not know there were any mountains in Florida!
A small group of us rode from our side of the peninsula near the Ocean over to the Hideaway in Lake Harris for Lunch. Again, using as many back roads as possible so what should have been a 60 mile jaunt was around 80+. Had a nice lunch and then the lead man took us to Sugarloaf Mountain in Lake County near Clermont. At 312 feet above sea level, it is the fifth highest point in Florida. At the crest we stopped to look over a Lake Apopka, where, if you really look hard and squint, you can see the skyline of Orlando (at least that is what he told us). Glad I had my GPS in the event I got left behind...I had know idea where I was.
The return leg was also another zig-zag round-a-bout ride through farms and residential areas that made for intersting riding. He actually found roads that you might consider twisties, albiet, Flrodia twisties. On one stretch there was lots of construction vehicles and sand on the road so it was like riding through a sand blast machine...boy does that stuff sting.
All in all, the weather was beautiful and the ride was great except for at least four times my whindhield received a splat of bird poop. Glad I had a windshield or it whould have been in my face.
I guess a good thing was that we did not run into any Love Bugs.
Close to 6 hours and just shy of 200 miles later, back home and I was ready for a nap (already done).

If you go on a Thursday, it's pretty cool...
We went on a Wednesday, and nothing was going on yet. It's like anything in life, it's what you make of it.
I think it's cool, my buddy didn't think so.
Nice bikes and artwork upstairs too, so be sure to visit that area. The food isn't anything special, although it's decent, and they serve cigar City Jai Alai, so that's a win in my book.
