Default Tampa to Naples by way of back roads - is it possible?

Hi all, I might head down to Naples in a few weeks. I'd like to ride, but I really hate the stretch of I75 from the skyway south - flat, boring, can't stand the traffic - everyone does either 50 or 90, no in between. So, I'm wondering if it would be possible and not add too much time to take back roads? Looking at the map, I don't really see many options, maybe US 41? I know 41 is a main drag in Fort Myers, at least it was 30 years ago when I lived there, so I imagine its worse today. Anyways, does anyone have any thoughts or tips on this? Anyone that has done Tampa to Naples without using 75, how long did it take?

Thanks

How much time do you have. Lots of different ways to go. US 41 wouldn't be one of them. That's as bad as 75, maybe worse because of all the stop and go. There are a lot of little roads that you could take, and maybe get lost along the way. That's part of the fun.

Agreed, 41 would be the worst route. This route will take you just east of Naples. What part of Naples are you going to?
You will have to map it out for the time it will take.

60 east
17 south
70 east
31 south
80 west
I75 south
Alico Rd. West
Three Oaks Pkwy / Imperial Pkwy / Livingston Rd. South

Thanks for the tips. I have no major time constraints, but I don't want to turn a 3 hour drive into a 6 hour ride. I'll be headed to downtown Naples, and I'll be starting by going over the skwyway as I live in pinellas county. Otherwise I would ride out to 17 and down.

Head down 41 to Bradenton and then head west and ride down the coast looking at all the big houses until you get to Siesta Key ( St. Armands Circle ) Jump back on 41 down to the Venice Pier for lunch. After that, pick a route....

This is not a bad route. Starting from 58th Ave S. Total time 3:40. Probably closer to 4 hrs. due to lights, and such. Good scenery. Roads not too bad once you get through Palmetto. Gas along the way, but plan it. A few stretches there is nothing for miles.

I’d take 64, 62, 70, or 72 east to 17, then 31 south from Arcadia. That’ll get you to Ft. Myers. Or go east to 27, then 29 south to Naples area. I’m with the others, 41 would be my absolute last choice, it’s as bad as 19.

I live in Pinellas and ride out east down there a lot. There usually isn’t too much traffic and there isn’t a red light every other block.

Good to know! Looks like I probably won't be going, but I'll keep that in mind if I do.
