How and why is HD associated with Americana?
I love that HD riders wave the flag everywhere. Just curios how y'all think American pride and HD came to be so intertwined. I always assumed it was the rebel aspect. The country was won from the British by rebels, so it makes sense that outlaws and rebels are idolized. At the same time, a country is also made up of the laws that it's citizens chose. So it seems contradictory that us riders, many of who break noise ordinances and speed laws all the time, feel so patriotic. Thoughts?

Just got done reading your other thread. I am an American, and a 20 plus year active duty Sailor. You do not know what Patriotism or Rights are.

I think the OP has a real problem with understanding American history and a problem understanding why laws have been put into place. I am a retired Navy veteran of 24 years. I've had several deployments around this big blue marble and seen how the citizens do live and cower to their gov't. The OP needs to visit places like Pusan, South Korea and watch locals pick a dead dog off the streets so they have a meal or visit Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoira) where the average annual yearly is $1000.00. Yep, too many naps in history class.

I'd rather not feed a troll but I'll bit and give my 2 cents. Riding in general gives you a great sense of freedom. America is so great because we have the most freedom of any country on earth. When I ride my bike (with my flag waving) I feel like I'm exercising my freedom as an American. Obviously HD knows this and uses it in its marketing thus furthering the image of HD being Patriotic. Nothing wrong with that I'd say.

To answer the OP and try to get things back on track. I think the association with HD and America/Americana is simple. HD was home-grown, pure American ingenuity and labor, pride of workmanship, and living the dream. The founder was a rebel. He went against the wishes of his family and struck out on his own and built his dream. Because he is/was an American, he was free to make his own destiny. I, for one, am proud to flaunt the American pride both in the motorcycle I ride and the country I live in.
HD was also a major part of the war effort for Americans. You might want to research the Moco and learn exactly what I'm talking about.
