My unsolicited opinion on the noise is spark knock/ping/detonation from too high a gear at too low a speed. Try doing the same hill in 4th or 5th and see what happens.

 

I actually ran into the mechanic from the shop at the visitation tonight and that's kinda what he said. He mentioned changing the tune a little to let it have more gas.


Yeah it didn't do it at a lower gear.
