The accidents are not on bases. What happens is that service men come back from surviving a war/conflict and feel like superman. Buy a bike...go real fast...no experiance and they get real dead. That is why things are cracking down with military bike riders.
Yep active duty are supposed to wear the gear all the time on or off post. Technically if I got killed in an accident with my skid lid on than the SGLI would not have to pay out....same thing if someone got killed because they were DUI....they usually do payout though. I still have extra life insurance with AAFMA and State Farm just in case. We had a mandatory battalion ride. It was off post in civilian clothes and we had to wear all our gear in the summer....long sleeves and gloves. It was ridiculous. Even though we all had MSF cards we still had to prove that we could ride our bikes.....sorry for hijacking this thread OP....maybe this should be another thread by itself....

Wow. And to think I used to race motocross, on the base, in Okinawa.

Not good, most likely a very regimented society with little or no personal freedoms. At best we would have Germany controlling Europe and Japan controlling Asia with the US and Canada isolated in the middle.
It's a good thing Roosevelt and Truman had the ***** to do what had to be done.
