What the hell is this 'jiffy stand' business?

One thing I do like about Harley's 'Jiffy Stand' is that it doesn't come with an engine cut-off switch like all metrics do....one less switch and electrical circuit to malfunction. And with a Harley (at least my Super Glide anyway) the jiffy stand won't come up or go down without a pretty healthy lean to the right.....and it seems very well locked in place when the bike's weight is leaning on it.

I had a Yahama once that had a "Iffy" stand on it. Iffy ya didn't be really careful when ya put it down, the d@mn bike would fall over!

Decades ago a friend had a Ducati scrambler with a kick stand that folded forward and the spring was designed too weak. He'd go over a jump, land, and the inertia would let the stand flop down some, and he did some really cool endo full-twist pirouettes.

Two drunks went to the bar and one of the drunks bike tiped over because he forgot to put his stand down and one said to the other, man that went down in a jiffy.....
Oh hell i dont know and dont care, call it what you will just dont forget to put it down in a jiffy when you get to where your going or kick it up when ya leave, anyway it suxs if you forget to do either.

Got to say it - the owners manual terminology is usually g - a - y . um, Village people oriented. Kick stand, saddle bags, etc. are all well accepted terms. Being different just to be different is - - - uh, you know!
