Default 1961 IronHead Jockey Shift

I am thinking of doing a jockey shift set up. The bike is a right side shift and I want to do the entire project myself. Does anyone have any advice or pointers for completing this. Any help would be great. As far as linkage goes how much weight or abuse will the shift shaft take? Can it be a shaft mounted shifter or should there be linkage to take some of the stress off the shaft.
