2003 rd king wont idle
 

i have a 2003 road king classic anniversary edition and had it just die on me while riding. I have changed fuse, replaced fuel lines, fuel pump, regulator and housing. It will run now but does not want to idle and back fires and pops?
i am at a loss.

Have you had a diagnostic done on the ECU? Fault codes should reveal something. It might even be the ECU itself. I usually like to do my own work, but when it's this kind of weird stuff, I'd take it in to a shop and see what they say.

Fuel injected or carbureted?

You might also want to check the speed sensor. Try cleaning it off or replacing it.

Edit- I see it has a fuel pump so its fuel injected. When does it shut off? While it's rolling down the road, or when you are idling or coasting to a stop?

The idle air stepper motor is probably stuck from varnish or carbon. I had to remove my tank to access the screws to clean mine and it corrected my idle problem.

Check the plug wires.
