The bill would allow riders 21 or older to go without helmets if they meet certain insurance and experience conditions. ???

Very similar to the current Texas helmet law. Everyone must wear but exempt if over 21 and have in$urance coverage or MSF course completion. 2009 session we defeated a very strong movement for a mandatory helmet law by conceding mandatory MSF course for all new endorsements. I expect we will lose all freedom of choice in Tx if not in 2013 then likely by 2015. Its getting more & more difficult to fight the insurance lobby and DC.

This does sound a lot like the Texas helmet law. If you're an adult and can pay your own hospital bills, why do you need a nanny state to tell you what to do and what to wear. Take responsibility for your own actions. There's too many sheeple that expect someone else to tell them what to do, or whine when they make a bad decision.

I agree, eliminate the laws and don't worry about it.

I'm all for that, as long as once your insurance runs out, they pull the plug on you. I don't want to pay out of my pocket to support someone that's injured enough to have to be on life support because they chose not to wear a very basic safety device.

I will never ride without a helmet BUT, I hate helmet laws.
It should be the rider's choice.

Nor would I want to pay out of my pocket because YOU choose to ride a motorcycle.

For what it's worth, it's only 29% more likely that you'll die riding without a helmet than with, but it's 1600% more likely that you'll die riding a motorcycle than driving a car.

+1 - Just like seatbelts...I wear mine, but it should be your choice if you're over 18.
