Acidrayn,
I'm a newbie here and with bikes, but not with electrical circuits. I was reading on Howard's Horns about the primary battery wires on HDs, and the site showed a pic of a hot wire after just a few thousand miles and how copper wire was discolored from corrosion. It recommended replacing them with their moster cable, also, the Howard Horn site said few batteries are good after more than a year. Check out the link at the bottom of their page for battery cables...one photo caption says "This cable is completely black and some wires are broken-not a good conductor of electricity. This bike is a 60K mile, 1991 Softail owned by a Harley Davidson Parts Manager who rides everyday, rain or shine, sleet or snow. He says, "Bike NOW starts first time, every time, and lights are much brighter!" Howards Motor Cycle Air Horns and Battery Cables
Hope you get it running smooth soon.

hey ned,thanks
i replaced the battery, did some tests with the advice of this great site,
and all roads point to the starter.
i have a 1.4kw ultima chrome starter comin, and we'll see where that goes
im an electrical contractor, so i have DC cable and connectors on hand
so im gonna make up a nice 4awg cable from the battery to the starter and a new ground
cable
been all up and down this bike, got a k&n dynojet pcIII comin as well
thanx for your response

o, and i wrench my own junk. if its outa warranty, i wont pay a stealer to fix it, and , well, i got no warranty
so its all on me.
been fixin bikes since i got my first tools at around 8yrs old. i think i enjoy fixin and moddin um almost as much as runnin um
