Hope these come out OK...

This is my latest FLRT. It's a 2005. I know it's a RoadGlide thing , but having had an EG, Heritage, and an '02 RoadGlide... it was a no-brainer when it came time to get a new one.

OK now,

That is cool. I had thought of putting the mini apes on my roadglide last year but ended up changing my mind. Great look.

Heres a front view. Sorry, I don't have any better side view. The bike fits me like a glove now, at 6'5", Lurch needed taller handle bars! Oh yeah, you can also see one of the spotlights I'm gonna put on the highway bars, it will have one on each side, mainly for the early morning ride to work, and deer!

OK, I've been lurking for a while, and thought it was time to join.

I have made the switch from a SERK (purple) after 4 yrs & 66K, I know I will miss the 'OLE Boy', but, I have many more miles to ride, and the RG looked like the ride
to move up too.

Now have 14,500k and still LOVE It.

Nice Ride WillieD! I have a buddy that recently picked up a Silver/Black RG. They sure look good...

TerryT - You can install WideGlide bars on the RG w/o having to replace or extend any cables or wiring. That worked out good for me. Of course, I'm not 6'5" either. See mine a post or two above Vetter's.

BTW - Vetter.... Love the Black/Silver too! Kinda partial to it, in fact. [sm=smiley16.gif]

When I started looking for a bagger, I thought I wanted an Ultra Classic. I rode maybe 5 or 6 Ultras and I could not get over the feeling that I was trying to steer a school bus. On one test ride, I got out on the freeway in the wind and had to fight to keep the bike on the road.

Then I went to Bumpus Harley-Davidson in Murfreesboro, TN and talked to the General Manager. He owns a Road Glide. When I described my hesitation with the Ultra Classic, he suggested I test drive this 2005 Road Glide they had on the floor. Five minutes into the test drive, I leaned into the corner to get onto the freeway. I decided right then and there to buy the bike. The pictures I just posted are that same bike.

For me, the Road Glide handles about 1000 times better than the Ultra Classic. I also think it tracks better in the wind. The only reason I can figure? It's the frame-mounted fairing. That gets the weight off the front forks. The other benefit of the frame-mounted fairing is that when buffeted by the wind, it spreads the pressure throughout the frame. So, you are not fighting the wind with just your arms.

Now, I could be wrong on all this and I don't mean to disrespect the many proud owners of Ultra Classics and Electra Glides. For me, though, the Road Glide was the right combination of Big Bagger and sporty handling.

I love it!

Rick
[/quote] I'll need to post some pics. I havent a single picture since I took her home in Nov. '05. Anyhow, went through a similar process you described. Previously owned a '98 RK and piled up over 100K on her. Last year(2005) did a trip from Ct. to Sturgis, and down to Colorado and along the whole trip I took to noticing the ROADIES real hard. In Colorado we met and spoke to many other riders on extended trips like ourselves on various touring rigs. Basically what all the RG owners I spoke to had in common was they had the need for superior handling because they had tendencies to ride hard-enjoy cornering- and overall ride in a spirited manner. They all felt the RG met or exceeded expectations. What pushed me over the top to buy the RG was how many actually switched FROM other dresser models that HD makes over to the RG model by preference. Esthetics normally doesnt play a big part in my decisions but gotta say I likes the fairing. Splits the wind and is cutting edge in the design dept. I almost decided to keep the RK and get a 1800GoldWing or BMWK12 for touring but glad now that I went with the Glide. Not a fan of the 'Wings saddlebag design, and only about half the room compared to the KING tourpac by Harley. (however my Honda buddies I ride with remind me how handy the tupperware can be to microwave something) So far to this point Im extremely impressed with the RG. Lovin' it. (posted pics to follow) I have installed the fan kit on mine-and detachable hardware for the tourpac.
