Default Best in fairing am/fm/wb antenna

i have an 08 ultra and i would like to make the TP removable.

i have searched a lot of old threads and see that most antennas made for in the fairing do not work as well as the whip.

i have read that you can coil up the coax and using the original whip bent to fit in the fairing, but none of them state what sort of loss can be expected.

would the whip still out perform aftermarket when installed in the fairing?

is there any one aftermarket antenna that is better then the rest?

Thanks in advance.

I've tried two different aftermarket hidden antennas and neither performed very well. I doubt there is anything out there that will get close to the performance of your standard whip antenna. As long as you are 15-20 miles from the station, the hidden antennas work fine. But if you ride in the "fringe" zones a lot then you will be disappointed. Personally, I don't listen to the radio much anymore. If I want some tunes I just use my IPOD.

I have the HD inner going into my RG as I type this. Don't really care about how well it works so much as I rarely listen to the radio. Just wanted to get rid of the whip so I can put clean fillers between bags and fender as I hate that gap..

Some have ran there whip antenna up the frame under the tank and seat and say it works great. I got the hd hidden one and it sucks to say the least. So I upgraded to xm and that hidden one is good here in michigan but when in pa and nc in the mountains it still cut out.

you are using the whip inside the fairing, or on the back?

I bought this guy off Ebay for $19 and love it.
I get better reception with it than I did with the stock antenna.
Simple plug and play.
