What are the reasons for me to change the cams aside from a performance upgrade?
If I'm happy with the performance are there any reasons why I should install new cams?
mainly because a stock twinkie 88 runs like a dog; why do you think there are so many "which cam should I use" threads here on the forum? The difference is like coming home after a ride with a smile...or a grin.
I personally am going to buy an 07 and up cam plate, and oil pump, and Andrews conversion cams, this way it gets rid of the stamped chains, and pretty much all of the wear on the tensioners, because they wear to the rollers, and stop, the SE kit just makes the outer chain a roller chain, and the inner chain stays the same as you have.
I think this costs less too.
I had my 2000 Ultra T/C 88 upgraded with a "Big Bore 95 Kit" before I had the S/E Hyd. Kit installed a few years later.
The gain in torque was unbelievable.
Not sure of how much torque you could gain just by changing the cams but it would at least be worth checking into as would going with gear drives, replacing the chain.
Either way, since you're already in there, new cam bearings are a "must" and may help prevent engine failure in the future.

Thank you!
I realize that there are many threads about cams out there from folks who like to improve the performance of their engine. My question was simply if there are any other reasons to do so and that got answered very clearly.
Not everybody is seeking more power, more torque, more speed, more performance.
Of course you won't hear from those of us on here that are perfectly content with the performance of our engine ("that runs like a dog") and just simply hope to have a reliable bike to enjoy and cruise on.
If you install this kit do you still use the cams for the 2000-2006 models or do you use cams for 2007+ models since you've upgraded to the newer cam plate and tensioners?

If you are talking about what I said , then you have to get a set of conversion cams ,Andrews makes them ,others might , but Andrews is the one I know.

+1. The conversion cams are small diameter on the case side, and large diameter on the cam plate side.
