2014 street glide ingnition switch

I need to remove my ignition switch from my bike. I was at the dealer and was told that all I need to do is press the button underneath the actual turning mechanism. And it would pull out. And to put it in the lock position. But I've done that multiple times and I still cannot get it to come out. Any advice?

Take your key, stick it in and turn it counterclockwise while pushing the button underneath.

check videos on youtube.

many of us make an alignment tool from a piece of 1/4" copper tubing.

this can keep you from pulling your hair out in 2 hours.

My question would be why? If it's to put new handlebars on, I can tell you that you do not need to remove the switch. I've done it twice without removing the switch... My 2 cents.

In order to paint it since it's plastic

I have done this but for the life of me I can't remember the how. After moving the bars and locking I remove assembly by pressing down and pressing the detent button on bottom and turn counter clockwise the assembly will come out this part I remember. What I don't remember is how do I unlock forks. Sorry for the hijack

remember earlier in the thread I mentioned alignment tool?

check the dozens of youtube videos and you'll get an understanding of what it takes.

( don't try just using a screwdriver- if you move 1 cam and not the others, then your whole switch and lock system is out of alignment.)

Newer ignition switch removal

The new 2014/2015 ignition switch is different and takes a different tool than the 2013 and older models....ask me how I know !! I'd like to see a video on the 2014 ignition switch removal if anyone knows of one. I've seen the ones for the 2013 and older.
