Default Best way to break in a new build.

What is the best way to break in a new build motor. Some say it was broke in on the dyno. Is that true or not.

From the factory they recommend not going over 60 mph or 3000 rpms for the first 50 miles and to stay under 3500 rpms for the first 500 miles. I'm guessing you could follow the same guide lines for a motor build.

You could... but I wouldnt. And haven't. And won't.

Google "Break in secrets".

Not saying it's right or wrong, but ano t her perspective. I would post a link but I'm on my phone.

Harleys "break in procedure" was written by lawyers, not mechanics. If they told you to break it in hard, some newbie would crash and sue them...

I keep my stuff a long time- I break in with conventional oil changing oil and filters at 50, 100, 300 and 800 miles.
At about 2000 miles I will swap to synthetic oil.
up to that point I vary rpms and stay under 3500 rpms.

a very conservative approach I know, but my stuff lasts....cars
bikes, trucks....many years and miles with very few problems

Are we talking a brand new entire motor or just a top end? Top end only can easily be done on the dyno.

Check with your engine builder. I remember builds using S&S components where they recommended easy riding for the first 500 miles.
