A leaky injector will not cause vapor lock. As a matter of fact the pressure in your fuel system makes it impossible to have vapor lock. You may want to search for another cause.
Perhaps "vapor lock" isn't the correct term I need to use but a mechanic told me if an injector is leaking, the fumes in the hot cylinder created by said leak (could) cause too much pressure in the cylinder when trying to start the engine. This makes sense since it never happens cold.
All Harley's still have compensators. Not wanting to turn over is strictly a starting system issue. Heat increases reistance requiring more voltage to do the same work. There are a lot of pieces in the starting system. Turning over but not firing is a different issue.
A local independent shop can help you check the battery and if it passes muster they can let you know if the releases will help and the cost to install. The cylinder heads must be removed to facilitate the install. I am a big believer in them.
Thanks for the quick replies but no, it's not the battery. It's only a yr old and I use a tender all winter. Also the bike sleeps in the climate controlled basement not out in the cold. Has to be something else and the 09's no longer have a compensator in the primary. They use rubber bushings in the rear pulley hub.
Any more ideas?
Batteries go bad and being just year old really doesn't mean anything. It could also be one of the connections to the battery being a bit loose, or corroded, or just plain dirty. When hot, there is more resistance to current flow, thus a bad connection could cause it also.
It could also be pressure, and if so, releases would help with that. You could try just "bumping" the starter button a bit and try to move the pistons some, that can work some times.
As for no compensator, ALL Harleys have one.
Pretty sure it was the flux capacitor they started leaving off in '09

Please don't take any offense but you need a mechanic or at the very least a manual. There is a compensator in your primary too.
I have a manual and was an A&P mechanic at one time. Been working on engines and all things mechanical all my life but this is an unusual issue, Guess I'll go have the battery checked and guess I'll have to look at the manuel concerning the compensator issue. It was after all a HD mechanic that told me they did away with the compensator on the crank when the 09's came out.
