Default 2014 Road King - Bagless and other mods

Hey All,

I like the looks/styling of my 2014 RK with the bags, however, I don't need that much storage for everyday riding. I'm looking for advice/info regarding going bagless at times.

What I'd like to do is remove the bags, bag supports and rear crash bars, and install a 'narrower' set of rear crash bars that will still protect the bike but not protrude out as far. I would also need a bracket to support the muffler/rear end of the Dragula 2 (2 to 1) exhaust I'm looking to install.

I want everything to be bolt-on so that I can easy convert back to stock bags/bags supports and stock rear crash bars for trips.

Anyone have info for a set of narrow rear crash bars (chrome) and a bracket to support the rear of the Dragula 2 exhaust when going bagless??

Thanks...

Pull the bags off and step back and take a look at the rear of your bike. I think you'll change your mind real fast.

I have seen several bagless RKs and they look pretty good done right. Typically the ones I have seen took off all the guards including the engine guard. I have never seen a smaller bag guard that you describe, that might have to be done custom.

on my '13 FLHP (Police), I removed the rear crash bar and bag rails, and found a chrome rail on ebay to take up the bag support/muffler hanger function. I can run w/o the bags, but it looks like sh*t.

my philosophy: "my bags are my rear crash bars"

you will be making a fatboy out of a touring frame - could work, but it'll be difficult to make look pretty. there was a company that made sidecovers that looked like FXR covers but they seem to be out of business. the ugly muffler support will be your biggest problem to solve. good luck - I also considered this at one time, but have gotten used to the convenience of bags and wouldn't run without them now.

short exhaust that dumps before the bags would enable you to get rid of the supports possibly?

Sell that Road King and buy a Heritage. They DON'T look like crap with the bags removed.

I've seen pics of them. I didn't like them very much, but that's just me. Might have to change the lollypop turns as well.
