1985 FLHTC Gas Tank

Looking for a replacement for the stock 1985 FLHTC gas tank. Don't want a stretched look just a more rounder look. Any ideas and thoughts you guy have would be great.

Thanks

Gas tank

I belive you can bolt on a 1989 tank. But don't quote me on that 😜

I have the stock tank I plan on taking off my 1990 FLHTCU for a gallon bigger (newer) tank I picked up. But I don't plan on doing it till the winter when I paint the bike. I could part with it then but you probably want one sooner than that. 90 may not work for you either but I kinda bet it would. It's a very clean (like new) tank too.

Question is why? There are options but not knowing what your intention is makes it difficult to give you an answer. That is pretty old so options may indeed be fairly limited regardless.

I think square-tankers are unique, the tanks were only made like that for a few years.

The reason is pretty simple in my eyes, is that I think the round tanks are more nostalgic looking. I agree the early 80's tank are unique but not my style I guess.
Unfortunately I don't want to wait until the winter as it's in for paint right now but I am having a hard time find a "rounder tank" that fits the back bone.

I agree that is pretty old but nothing some love can't make new again...

Thanks for your opinions in advance,

Nothing else?

I thought about doing this with my 1987 but bought a newer bike instead. There are a few threads in the shovelhead section that will work for you. You can put up to 2007 tank and seat on it with just a little work. Only thing if you get a fuel injected tank you'll have a little more work into the tank to set it up for carb. Here is one of the threads, this one is using a RK tank but it mounts the same as the EG tank. If you look around, there is another thread that's more in depth with more pics.

I suspect any of the later round tanks will fit, certainly up to 1992, when I believe the frame was dropped at the seat area.

It would be worth calling in on the Evo section, where you will find plenty of helpful chaps!
