Question standard Road King vs police King

after some years of absolutely trouble free riding my RK standard 2006
I was offered today a RK police 2007. Have not seen it yet in real life.
The only things I would like to change on my RK are: 6 Speed gear box and, more important: a higher seat (=butt) position.
Suppose the Police bike offers that, what are your thoughts or experiences about this change? It is suupposed to be a 103 engine.

I really appreciate every response,

I know that Harley only uses the bikes that score the highest on the engine test for police models...police bikes are usually well maintained....

years and years ago MoCo used higher QA on cop bike, that is not the case anymore, they are built to the same high standards as civilian bikes

years ago the cop bikes had bigger stators to account for the added electrical load, no more.

(you can take the previous statement any way you want)

The electrical harness is different, you really want the cop bike service manual add on for that reason alone.

unless someone has changed the switch controls, you will find the horn button in a different position, and again imho I like the cop bike horn switch a LOT better than the civilian version.

Not really a best kept secret anymore but still great value for the money, depending on what your ultimate plans are. Some guys spend way too much civilianizing their police bikes, that in my opinion, they should have just bought a different model touring bike to begin with.
They are excellent "blank canvasses", fun bikes to modify though. I like to refer to them as the "Swiss Army Knife" of touring bikes because they are so versatile.
Good luck in your search!

My only issue is the cost and difficulty adding cruise control. I sure miss it in long rides.

I have read it is really easy for late model bikes to add but not my 2004

I have a 2005 police edition electra glide. the guy I got it from bought it with 500 miles on it so I doubt it did police duty an the wiring harness isn't much diff from a stock bike so I assume it never had lights an sirens wired in.

I'm 5'8 so I removed the police seat but still have it. it has a pivot that mounts up by the tank an an air shock for the seat. it was too high for my liking. Some guys ditch the air shock for the KONG dog toy to absorb bumps.
