Default Inner Fairing Brass Fittings Wont Stay In

My 10 street glide has one of those brass fittings that fit into the inner fairing that is just gunked up. It wont stay in inner fairing and when I tighten screw to hold windshield in place it pulls the brass fitting out.

I was thinking of maybe jbwelding it in but then if it ever gets stripped it will be hell getting outta the inner fairing.

Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions? Thanks.

But the replacement insert from HD. They screw in and WILL hold.

I've never needed a special tool before but that looks like it would work pretty slick.

yup, harley part 16585-96. They screw in, make their own threads - as long as the inner fairing is in good enough shape. some mistake the slotted end for where you put your screw driver to screw them in (facing out) but in reality, the slotted end goes in first, and helps to cut the threads.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the slot was for a flathead screwdriver, now the tool makes more sense.

I JB Welded mine in place and has been that way for years. If it does get stripped, its brass and easy to drill out, then replace with the HD replacement part.
