Someone tried to steal my bike.
I made the trip to myrtle beach SC for the fall bike rally. Weather was good while I was there but I had to ride back in some crazy weather today. Anyways, while I was parked in the parking garage, someone evidently took a pair of pliers and tried to break my fork lock. They damaged the chrome lock itself but nothing else. Cosmetically, I'm not too tore up over it , however my lock won't work now. Previously when I would lock the fork, a key would need to be inserted before the lock would turn. Now, it will turn regardless of whether a key is used to switch it from "lock" to "unlock"
Needless to say I was pretty mad, especially considering the fact that I rode down, and wasn't sure if this idiot messed anything else up. What am I looking at to make this right again guys? Thank you in advance |
Probably not much as I think the part that would break is on the actual shaft that extends into the neck. I'm inclined to think you may have to get a new stem keyed to match your saddle bag locks.

Sorry to hear you had a problem. The lock itself will need to be replaced.

What type of bike? If it is a touring model with a fairing you just need to replace the ignition/lock mechanism. Pretty easy to do. I have an extra one if you are interested.

How much is this going to hurt my wallet? Unfortunately I don't know who did it, so they won't be able to help pay for it

No security cameras in the park garage? Then you can see if he touched anything else :(

I got the ignition switch this summer for my 13 EGC. It was around $165 and took a few weeks to get. The good thing is it came keyed samed as my bike and only takes you about 30 seconds to change once you get it.

Back in June, paid $140 for ignition switch, keyed to match, received in 8 days. Pull black cover off your key and 4 digit number can be found - provide this to dealer when ordering.
oh, my ignition turns without the key to the locked position, then I insert my key to lock it. always has. |
I installed one of these when my ride was new:
http://roadlok.com/ They know how to charge for them but its so damned convenient to use that you "use it". Anyhow, its an option, there are many. |

This is the part for a fairing bike. The keyed lock is not part of this. The cost about $65 at the dealer. If this works for you it is yours shipped for $30.
