Default 21" RK Front Wheel Question

Quick question for guys with Road Kings that have a 21" front wheel...did you have to modify your fender at all in order for it to fit and have clearance? Bike is at stock height if that matters.

Not sure about the Road King, but my stock front fender fit my 21" wheel when I put it on my 15' Street Glide - just needed a 1" adaptor to move it away from the new wheel....

The '13 and older bikes "usually" require nothing. But it's a super close fit. The '14 and newer bikes require adapters that raise up the fender. I assume you are talking about your '06. If that's the case, CHECK IT! tape something small to the tire and make sure it spins threw. In my case I was right at the almost touching point with my 21, so to not risk burning the paint should the tire ever run low on air and grow, I raised the fender. Most people don't worry about it, and just bolt the 21 on and go.

Yes sir talking about my '06. How do you raise the fender? I want to do this right and not destroy my rim or hurt myself because it's not on properly. Thank you for the help.

EDIT just Googled it and it looks like you just drill new mounting holes to raise the fender. Thanks again for the reply.

I put a 21" on my 2001 no issue. Only clearance issue that concerned me was the bolt for the for fender trim, but easy enough with a grinding wheel. I taped a couple nuts to the tire and spun, no issues and 5k miles later, still none.

Usually all that's needed is to drill out the rear mounting holes with (I think) a 3/8 drill bit. Lift up on the back of the fender, and re-tighten the bolts. I watched a couple guys who, after they drilled the rear mounts out, super glue a piece of toothpick in the hole to assure the fender didn't drop back down as they were tightening the bolts back up. But having a friend pull up on the fender seems to work just as well. Just remember too re-check and re-tighten after the fist day or two, to ensure the bolts are tight and the fender doesn't slide back down.

I wouldn't drill my fender, bolt the wheel on and check clearance. 6000 miles on my 05 Eglide and no issues. I did remove the original bumper bolt from the fender tip. 21" RK Front Wheel Question-photo475.jpg21" RK Front Wheel Question-photo453.jpg21" RK Front Wheel Question-photo877.jpg

LOL, you don't drill the fender!!! You simply make the rear mounting holes a tiny bit larger for an added margin of safety.
