Default Best Tires in the Rain

I have a 2007 Road Glide. I currently have the Avon Venom Tires and when I do end up in the rain, it feels like the tires do not stick to the road real well. Does anyone have recommendations on tires?

You will get a lot of different answers. I have run Metz, Avon, Dunlop, and Michelin. I have the best traction control out of the Michelins Commander II's.

Welcome from NC. I have the Avon Cobras. Different tread pattern than the Venoms, but happy with grip and stability in wet conditions. Did an NC to FL trip over the summer and most of Georgia was rainy coming back. Tires did very well on that ride.

I was reading up on the Michelin Commander II and they seem to have a lot of good reviews. Another thing I am unhappy about is that the tread life on the Venoms doesn't seem to good. I will check out the Cobra's also.

Wet or dry, I have been very happy with the Dunlop American Elites (not to be confused with Dunlop Elite 3's). They have great traction wet or dry and I consistently get around 20K miles from them.

Run, not walk, from Dunlop Elite 3's. Wet traction is horrible.

I have run different tires but have to say the Commanders are by far the best.

I actually ride on purpose in the rain to compare, I had some Dunlops on wagon wheels and my new wheels with Commanders and went out and rode my test loop, swapped wheels and tires and went on the loop again, very different feeling in the rain

I've always used Michelin Commander II's in the past on my previous bikes, but I've heard a lot of good talk about the American Elite's.
I'll probably give them a try when my time for replacement comes for my SGS..

I've used Venoms for many years and now have a Cobra front. I've ridden across Europe in the most terrible conditions on my Venoms , with no problems whatsoever.

It is worth pointing out that, like some other brands, Avon recommend higher pressures than the stock tyres. Check their website. If you are running them at stock pressures that may cause the feeling you have experienced. Recommended pressures for your bike when solo are 38F/44R. When 2-up I increase both of those.

I've been in rain many times on extended trips and have never had any issues with the stock Dunlops on the five Harley touring bikes I have owned.
