Default 88 stage 1 vrs 96 stock

A buddy and I went out yesterday for a ride. He has a 2010 ultraclassic and I have a 2003 road kind with stage 1 and pcv. I can easily stay with him and pull him on full throttle bore but with both of us in fifth gear (he has a six speed) he walks away. His bike weighs 960 lbs and mine 740 lbs. I thought they would both be close given his weighs a whole lot more. He and I both weigh about the same.

First of all the bikes are geared different. second a Stage 1 on an 88 does give you a little more but if want it to run great you need to change the cams. Once I changed my cams I could easily out run my buddys 2011 fat boy lo with a stage one on it

I have a 2003 EGC with a Stage 1 and can easily outrun the 2 2007 Ultra Classics with stock 96's I've ridden on and next to. Didn't get out on the open highway to see about top gear speed but off the line and on county roads my 88" was able to walk away. When I rode those 2 96's, I did not baby them. I rode them hard just like I ride mine.

Scudda, how radical are your cams? I was going to put in some mild cams when I do the tensioners at the end of the season. I don't want to ruin the motor either. I don't hammer the RK but once in a while I will open it up for a 1/4 of a mile or so. Yesterday we were on some back roads and he took off hard, I easily caught him but when we were at 50 mph, we both rolled the throttle and he pulled away easily. I know my low and mid range is better because I caught up to him easily. I'm looking for a good cam so when I want to pull our and pass someone.

Hell, even my Stage II 95" (Andrews 26 cams,) will run with a 110" all day long. (The FuelMoto kit is in a whole new ballpark.)

Stiggy, when you did your big bore did you just add pistons/rings and bore your existing jugs or what?
