Default Rider Backrest Repair

I have a Harley rider backrest. The spring that holds the tension forward is appears to be broken. It looks to me that I will have to remove the cover to access this spring. I can't tell where the top of the spring attaches.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

It probably just came unhooked. It happened to mine. Just go to your dealer and ask to see a backrest, to see how it's hooked. You can lift the slit in the back to see it. You can re-hook it with a pair of needle nose pliars

Thank you for the reply. The loose end does not have a hook. It is a straight end which led me to believe that it is broken but I have not been able to find where it attached. I was at the dealer today but only determined that a spring was part of the assy. I plan on returning to the dealer tomorrow. The parts sheet only shows the spring that goes between the installation uprights.

The spring just keeps the backrest from flopping around when you are not leaning back into it.

With that said........ how many times are you going to be going down the road when you are NOT going to be leaning back on it ?

This may help. I will mount it on the bike and go from there. Thanks for your help.
