Default First time doing cam swap 09 FLHX!!!

So I have a 2009 Street glide with a bassani 2 into 1, a screamin eagle stage 1 intake and a power commander V. I bought SE 254E cams off a member here and going to be doing the install myself. I've done a lot of research on the forum and ordered a s&s cam install kit and fuel moto adjustable pushrods. Anything else you guys think I would need or any tips to make the install go smoothly would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Steve

Service manual is your friend. Take your time and enjoy satisfaction of doing it yourself.

A factory service manual is a must have IMHO and IME. You will need the tools to change your inner cam bearings and an in/lb torque wrench. Bolt cutters to remove the stock pushrods.

+1 on the service manual. I'd also recommend changing the cam bearings, so you'll need to borrow or buy the tool. Mine came from Heartland Products and works great. There are several really good Youtube videos out there that outline everything almost step by step. Take your time and it'll all go smooth.

otto: Another one here chiming in on the necessity of a service manual. Don't attempt the job without it. You didn't mention whether or not you have one, I'm assuming you do. Read through the dis-assembly and assembly sections twice, and employ all other aids at your disposal, and HAVE FUN. It takes a little time doing it for the first time, but it's extremely easy.

Good luck!

P.S. Just thought about this after the first paragraph was posted.....if you like to slake your thirst in the garage with a cold beer, it's best to hold off until you're finished working on your motor for the afternoon/evening. May seem so simple, but this simpleton has learned the hard way!

The Cam service kit should have the inner bearings you need so don't sweat it.

Do use the right tool for the job though...

Do you have the correct puller/installer kit for the inner bearings? Plus the locker tool for the cam gears.

If not, I can loan you one with just a deposit.

PM me if interested.....
