Default Tank Emblem Removal on Denim Black Paint

Hello, I removed 1 of the tank emblems on my 15 RGS. I used the heat and fishing line method to get the emblem off. There is still some sticky residue left on the tank. Just curious if I could use anything that would not harm the paint or make it shiny? Also maybe you guys have some tips or tricks? I think it looks much better without the emblems.

Thanks

Mmmmmm! I have used WD40 and a little patience on my bikes, with a soft cloth. The sticky stuff is slowly softened so it can be removed. I don't however have a denim paint, so it will be interesting to see if there is a better way.

I've been trying to do that. I guess I need more heat?

I find that lighter fluid (like for a Zippo) works really well. I've never an issue with it hurting paint either.

On the denim finish, you really don't want to rub the same spot very much, or you'll begin to polish that spot into a higher sheen.

I tried a little heat from a hair dryer. I actually thought it worked better without heat. I did one side with heat, dental floss and WD-40. The other side I did with dental floss and my fingers no heat no WD-40. It turned out it came off really easy that way.

Maybe the clear coat on my tank helps those come off. My bike is charcoal Pearl not the denim.

Whatever you do just be patient, be patient keep working at it. If you try any type of cleaners or products spot check it first.

I apologize in advance for the multiple posts. You can try glass cleaner that might cut the greasy sticky. I don't believe the glass cleaner hurts the paint either that's what my buddy uses on his denim bikes. He has 2 black denim bikes.

Shouldn't need heat to remove the adhesive. Roll a corner up with your thumb then try to grab a corner at a 45 degree angle and slowly pull the tape. If that doesn't work just keep rolling it up with your thumb in the same direction.

3M (or similar) Adhesive Remover, will take it off without harming the paint. Also wax and grease removers will do the same.
