Default Rear Brake light switch meltdown--Alternative

So yesterday my rear brake light switch blew out, shorting the wire harness and leaving me with no rear brakes... after searching through the forums I still can't believe HD never fixed this... reading up these switches are poorly made and thanks to : speckfisher in this thread here is a perfect alternative to HD's

BWD's switch #S553 (Any way to make this thread sticky)

A bad switch caused loss of braking? I thought the actual brakes were hydraulicly activated. You should have braking even if every electric part on the bike was dead.

Never mind, I see the switch caused a fluid loss. Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront.

This is a old common problem caused by switch overheating from proximity to exhaust.Make your self a heat shield and you won't have any future problems. You would think Moco would of done this by now,but they haven't.

MOCO replaced them on the 10 and newer due to excessive heat from catalytic converter. Service bulletin on my 10 anyway.

The part where the wires attach meltdown and when you press the brake fluid sprays out of there all over the engine (makes for a nice smoke show)

GTK exploring options....Got some scrap metal lying around going to look at some potential designs

funny they recalled some of the bikes with them..
