Tank refurb

Does anyone know of a company that refurbs the inside of fuel tanks? My rust coating is peeling off in big chunks and plugging my fuel pump. (99 FLHRCI)

You probably don't want to hear this, but if your fuel tank is that rusted, the process to super clean it is going to take paint off exterior of tank. Most radiator shops can do this process, but won't guarantee paint.Your best bet is to buy another tank in good shape and paint to match.

i can see no rust but the POR? coating is peeling off. I really don't care about the paint, going to repaint anyway. Thanks for the reply.

You are probably better off replacing the tank, maybe a nice clean used one?

1999 FLHRCI Gas Tank

OK, I'll go with a new/used one. Anyone have a lead on one? I see there is a company in PA that refurbs tanks. They cut the bottom open and blast the inside and then weld it back up, recoat the interior and primer the exterior. That seems like a lot of work if I can find another tank. Thanks for the reply.

try it yourself, replace it anyway if to doesn't work. go in with a chemical striper and a handful of abrasives shake well drain clean and recreem.

KREME is NOT E10 or E15 friendly, the ethanol dissolves the resin.

Boat guys had one hell of a time when the E fuels came out, which is why you can usually find Ethanol free gas where there are lots of boats close by.

When I had my rice bike in Florida I always used the Ethanol free gas in it. Otherwise I had to drain the carbs every time I went back north.

has anyone seen the dryer method?

clean tank of any gas, pour in pebbles, wrap tank with blanket, duck tape around blanket, insert into large dryer and tumble....pour in coating fluid.shake and let dry.

seen it done but no more details then that, and its cheap.

Call George for a price....

He did my Bandit for $400, and it was a hot mess with varnished fuel sitting for 12 or more years. I doubt you'll find a new/used tank for that price.

Here's his website.

http://www.fueltankservices.com/index.html

ETA: His process does NOT damage the outside of the tank. He uses electrolysis to neutralize the rust after cleaning the interior. My fuel tank was like new before I handed it to him, and after I received it back. HTH.

Thanks for the info guys. I saw the fuel tank services guy on line and was hoping for a quicker solution but I may give him a try. Thanks for your solution.
