Here she is with her new wide whites. I always wanted wide whites. The old tires were toast. Also got a full state inspection, check out, lube and full tune up and all fluids changed. A 100% clean bill of health so she is 100% good to drive!
My 17 year old son is getting a lot of handlebar time. He did it all for me while I was at work today.
Nice bike.
The shift rod linkage is original.
It is the rod from shift lever to transmission arm.
The ends of that rod are known to break at some point.
They basically separate at the joint.
An inexpensive option is to re-use the same rod but replacing the ends with heim joints.
Then get two chrome bolts and one chrome acorn style nut from Ace Hardware (total cost should be less than $20).
Alternatively a shoelace can get you home in an emergency.
Thanks for all of your help. I am having a blast on this bike. A few questions. Above 70 F it runs likes dream. On the damp cool evenings and mornings I occasionally get a pop through the carb. It may happen onecenin 10-15 miles. Not a big deal I am sure. Too lean with the dense cool air?
Lastly, when starting, most of the time warm it starts before it even turns over once. But when cold and choked, it may turn over 2-3 times. When it seems to catch and not start the starter makes a short grind type noise. Then it continues and starts and it is fine. Is this normal? It's just for a fraction of a second. I assume the motor is overtaking the starter for a moment?
Other than that, no other issues. It is so fun to drive and the wife and I are having a ball. I am learning she would rather ride than drive her own bike. I guess that comes with owning a Harley.
I am sure more questions will arise in the next few weeks.
