that was a fun read, and since I own an Electra Glide I can claim to have a true piece of history and not some unproven model like a street glide....lol
Pretty good info. 65 was the last year of the Panhead and the only year with electric start, thus the name. And like Mike mentioned, 66 was the first year of the slab side Shovelheads. I was thinking '70 was the first year of the nose cone Shovelheads.
Head
you are correct, 1970 was the first year of nose cone Shovelheads.
The Electra Glide"Classic" is no longer in the mix.
2013 was the last year is my understanding.
Correct. My 2013 EG Classic is a great way to go both directions of mods. Easily stripped to Steet Glide form and enough Ultra options to make comfy when wanted.
I've had 4 bikes that carried the name "Electra Glide" over the years. All of them different! First was a 1967 Shovelhead. Next was a 1991 "Evo". That one was followed by a 2001 "Twin Cam 88". My current ride is a 2008 105th Anniversary Edition Ultra-Classic, pictured here. All but the 67 were "Ultra Classics", with all the bells and whistles. Don't use too many of the "toys", but do like the lower fairings and the touring bags. Nice bikes all!
Great post, love the Slab Side Shovel Heads, always liked the 3.5 gal tanks too, except for on the way to Sturgis.... 110 miles, and i needed to see a Chevron.
