I have been shoping for a new Roadglide lately. Found a great dealer that is going to let me take a test ride next week on a 07. Looking forward to that, but I have a small problem. I have been in contact with an owner of an 06 with a little over a thousand miles on it and he really wants to sell me the bike. The price difference would be around 3 grand. Any thoughts on the 07 as compared to the 06?
I've got two brothers with 07's ,I gotta 06, I go everywhere they go at the same cruising speeds 65-70 and when we fill up I'll put 1/2 gallon less gas in every time. If the 06 has any extras at all on it I'd buy it without giving it a second thought. Maybe he's already changed the bars and the seat, pipes, chrome switch housings, hiway pegs back rests. that stuff all adds up to probably 1500 pretty easily. I would NOT trade my 06 for an 07, even though they're great bikes there just not that much mre powerful at all. I don't mean to be slamming anyones 07. they are great, but stock there is verry little difference inthem and that othergear ain't worth the extra 3 grand and then when you buy all the other stuff it'll be more than that. Stafford
the previous posts make good points. if it's a bone stock 06 then it's just a good deal on an 06. but if the P.O. dropped 2-3 grand on it which you can do without batting an eye. then I would lean towards the 06. Although I would also say that an 07 with pipes a/c and a FI programmer would make for a very enjoyable ride. You will spend more getting the 06 at the same power level. If that even matters to you.
I have a 06 RG 95 CI, ported heads, 10.25:1 pistons, gear drive Crane HTC 316 cams, SE AC, and a SERT. I love the build. Good gas mileage. the power is 94hp and 97ft lbs. more than a stock 96 not sure about a well tuned 96'r though. I could run more cam but I wanted reliability. I know you didnt ask about power but thats really the only difference other than the tranny.
I would say it boils down to which one you like more.
There's nothing wrong with the 06's & that sounds like a decent deal.... Heck, if ya work it right (use the 07 as leverage) you might even get the price down a bit more....
Either way, you'll be happy.
Don't fret.... pick the one YOU like, and don't look back!
Like other have said.... For me it would depend on if I liked any extras that might be on the '06 and if I liked the color.
Performance is an issue for me. The fact that I was starting with a stroker and 6 speed pushed me to purchase the 07. I think the power potential when adding cams, heads, and everything else without having to spend the money on stroking an 88 was too much for me to pass up. 115/115 is not uncommon for a 103" build. It is going to take more money to get a 95" to those power levels. Not saying it can't be done, there are several on this board, just saying it's gonna cost more to do it.
