Mine did the same thing on my 2013 UC after about 8 months from new. I replaced it with a comparable one from JP Cycles. It did the same thing shortly thereafter. I didn't over tighten it as I figured that was the cause of the first problem. Not really sure why the second one cracked.

Mine was also found cracked with about 2500 miles on it and the dealer would not replace it under warranty. I was putting a new screen on it anyway.

This is how they measure:

Great company to work with.

Try a different tightening sequence. Perhaps the w/s was tightened first then the fairing mount screws, this would focus stress on the w/s screws rather than the fairing mounting screws. Also make sure the fairing to frame brackets are tight too. Food for thought.

Besides over tightening, a misalignment of the windshield to the inner fairing screw boss when installing can put a small chip in the plastic & then the general vibration will cause a crack to run, usually towards the outside. Also, HD once used US made Lexan poly-carbonate but I've heard they now use Chinese made Lexan. Many of the motorcycle windshield companies use Korean or Chinese poly-carbonate but pass it off as American made. Lexan was once owned by GE Polymer but has been owned by SABIC a Saudi Arabian Co for many years.

Another thing worth mentioning. When installing a w/s look at the pre drilled holes. Are they a clean drill with no chipping or burrs like from being drilled with a dull bit? If so this may make that w/s doomed to fail. Believe it or not, when drilling holes in critical assemblies, such as truck frames for one, they tell you when you scribe a center mark, don't go beyond the OD of the hole because the frame will start to crack. There's a lot of vibration on a fairing so you never know. I've had 2 baggies with a half dozen w/s r&r's and never had an issue. Could be a bad lot of lean w/s's.

I have the same issue with all 3 screws on a '14 Tri-Glide windshield.
I went to the dealer and was told that the insulation was over a year old, I had a Bar and Shield trim bar put on, that it was out of Harley-Davidson warranty.
My point was their service department caused the damage and they should be responsible.
I ordered a Long Ride Shield instead of dealing with them.

For correct measurement of your windshield, call LRS and talk to them. If you go recurve, it will be different. Super people to deal with, and an outstanding product.
And you will not beat their deal.

14 FLHXS 95,000 ride winters in Ohio. I’ve been through about 8 klockwerks 6.5 and 8.5. Stock w/s has never cracked yet and I got a 7.5 windsplitter last year and it didn’t last long. I did run a 11 wide long ride last winter and it didn’t crack. I have never investigated a cause as I don’t wash or do mait much.
