Default 1994 Electra Glide Police

Hello all,

Just landed a smokin' deal on a 1994 Electra Glide Police bike and have a couple of questions...

Anyone ever put a radio one of these pre 1996 fairings? It still has siren/pursuit switches. Not looking to have hand controls...just simply put a radio and 4" speakers this winter. Let me know of kits that are out there that may work (radio sleeves etc). Any input is greatly appreciated.

Were there any upgrades to the police Evo's versus the standard Electra Glides i.e. Cams etc? My apologies if there is a thread already about this...couldn't find anything on Evo police bikes.

Anyone have success in putting a quick detach tour pack kit on a pre 1996 touring bike?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Says 1996-2013, but I would call them and ask for Mike. If they cannot do it, they will tell you who can.

I have a 1994 FLHTP that I bought new back in July 1994. I put a Kenwood KRC440 radio with Infinity 402 speakers in the dash back in June 1995. The Kenwood was one of the old style pull-out radios where sleeve mounted in the dash and you used to pull the radio out of the dash and take it with you. This was prior to the removable face plates on the radios. I don't know if you're old enough to remember stuff like this.
My bike is almost all stock. I added the radio, windshield pouches, and the small tour pak. And I now have the stock exhaust from a 2006 Electra Glide to replace the original exhaust that had a cracked pipe.
I don't know if there was any difference in the motors vs the civilian bikes ... never researched the part numbers.
I do have the service manual and the police model supplement if you have any questions that I may be able to answer.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. The service manuals for your bike are available from your local friendly dealer and well worth getting, to help you service and modify your bike. We also have a dedicated Evo section, which is worth calling in, where you will find plenty of fellow owners and help if and when you need it.

There are also on-line parts websites, where you can get useful info on your bike, although a parts book is also available from dealers.

many evo police models have a cam similar to the andrews EV3- HD made their own cams and never published the specs...when i had my 88 FXRP motor rebuilt an EV3 was used in place of the original.
some models may have milled heads for higher compression- either .050" or .060"- this can cause an increase in sealing problems at the intake - I swapped in a solid Bartel's manifold after my 2nd leak in 1990.
the ignition module will have a higher rev limit- likely 5800 rpms- this is essentially the sportster ignition module- a common swap in the early evo era

stock pushrods can't be used with milled heads- on the rebuild I went with adjustables

many cop bikes are emissions exempt from the factory- this will be in the VIN, for example the CHP bikes had no evap canister and the cop cam vs the CA cam which was 45 hp, vs 55 hp 49 state cam.
my bike as stock was 74 hp on the dyno.
a tuned supertrapp 2/1, swapped in tuned CV carb moved my power curve peaks lower- allowing a 15% overdrive rear pulley- 61 T

I bought my 1990 FLHS new with that size rear pulley, which was stock on International spec models. I did the reverse to you and swapped to a US spec 70T, to improve performance!

the int'l pulley was an easy swap- requiring the softail belt.

I'd dropped my old belt ( credit CHP for 40,000 hard miles) at 60,000 miles.

with the grunt of the motor and the tuning it made sense to go overdrive- esp with a lighter weight bike ( all the cop stuff removed)

It is nice to get all the way through an intersection before shifting gears, and dropping revs for interstate cruising

Thank you for all the feedback. I'm going to tear the fairing apart this winter and attempt to put in a radio...just not sure how to wire it since police bikes are not wired for radios. Got such a great deal on the bike...all it need is tunes! Bikerrinics do not make anything for the pre 1996 police bike.

there are many radios which will fit in there- just don't worry about handcontrols and it'll be easy and basic.

i would suggest a "marine" radio for the wet days
