Default First service on the new bike

I am getting ready to schedule my first service on my new and wondered if it was time to switch to all synthetic oil. Since mine is not a CVO I believe it came with conventional oil. Also, the owners manual recommends 5,000 miles between oil changes so if I don't switch now it will be a while. Has anyone stuck with the conventional oil? Or, is this not recommended?

You can but you don't have to. Either one will work fine.

It isn't necessary. I run two of my twins on dyno oil, but my Glide has an S&S motor and they recommend synth, which I use for that. It's the only bike in 50 years that I've used synth in!

Main difference is at the cash register.

The overall concensus is NOT to use synthetic in the primary but rather HD Formula Plus. It keeps the compensator much quieter and I have to agree.

My salesman told me to ask the manager for a free service when I bought my new bike and I did and got it covered. The rest I just do myself after that. I bought a service manual for $60 and has all the info I need. Well worth it.
