What's different about the '09?

Why does the factory and some aftermarket companies list parts as only fitting 2010 and later touring bikes? Especially when they are emissions legal (not that I care). I don't know of any difference in the frame or engine from '09-'10. The only differences I know of in 2010 were the 2 into 1 exhaust, 18" front wheel and first year for no center tailight

2009 does not have a catalytic converter. 2010 on does.

The 2009 doesn't have a cat, stock. That, along with what you mentioned, are the major differences from 09 to 10+.

Pretty close.

Actually, International bikes, CA. bikes, and CVO bikes in 2009 ALL had cats in the headers.

Also, they had the 18mm bungs in the headers. 2010+ went with the smaller and current size bungs. (12mm, I think)

That is about it. I had a 2010 Ultra and by best riding buddy has a 2009. The transmission did change on the 2010 for the worse. I had two failures on the main shaft bearing.

Didn't the frame get stretched a bit?

Yup 100% correct here

the frame changed into 2009 from the 2008 and down frame which dated back to 1983 (with very minor changes along the way).

the 09+ frame is not only dimensionally different but also the way it is formed, materials and assembled (bolted together- the bolt on rear section makes for easy replacement rather than totaling the bike.)

another 09/10 difference is that 2010 brought in Tier II emissions requirements ( which is why the cat became universal), and regulations for tampering.

I'm in California so my '09 came with the catalytic converter. The frame and engine are the same as '10. If the O2 sensors are different then I understand why the head pipes would be different. I was looking at the 120ST today at the dealer and it's listed as being street legal for 2010 up bikes. I guess I will have to ask them why.

The pipes are the same 09+, it's just the 02 sensors from what I understand. Are you running the OEM head pipe?
