Default 07 Road King 68 Tooth Pulley swap

I have been reading on older threads about swapping my rear pulley out from a 66 tooth to a 68 tooth off a 07 or newer sportster. Just wondering who has done it and which bolts, extra parts needed other than just a new pulley. Pulled my rear wheel to change tire and noticed chrome starting to peel on a couple of teeth, figured time to change. Also anyone that has run this combo for a while have you had any issues, also can the stock belt still be used?

Had you previously added IDS? If not, you can use sportster pulley 40354-07 and change to shorter bolts 7 1/6 x 5 x 2 inch. Stock belt can still be used.

No it doesn't have IDS. Do you know what grade of hardware would need to mount the new pulley? I thought about maybe doing the Jap sportster IDS pulley swap, all the part numbers on the forum still seem to be available, one thing that I didn't know was if the sprocket came with the extra bearing? And if it did would it be the right size for my axle. But I think I maybe I should just keep it simple, not to mention a solid sportster pulley are a lot easier to get than a jap one. Thanks

Parts list says "SPROCKET ASSEMBLY FINAL DRIVE, W/ BEARING - 68T"

Good question about the bearing size (is it 1" or metric?). It appears it's the same 1" as yours because there is no differentiation of axles on the same 2007 diagram showing both pulleys

You can get the bolts from Harley or other Grade 8 if so inclined

.

If you have a HD manual they list the grade of bolts for each one on bike. I had looked at doing this with the Jap sportster pulley a few years ago on my 2008 SG and was told this pulley was no longer available? Maybe they b.s.'d me but i went a diff route when that didn't pan out.

I swapped my 66 out for a 68, and swapped the 32 front for a 30. Got grade 8 bolts at the hardware store. The stock belt worked fine for me. Be sure to put a drop of red loctite on the bolts when you install them.

What did that do to your speedometer accuracy? The ONLY thing I have never liked about my 07 RK is the gearing; my 09 Ultra is just perfect in that regard. But I have checked speedo accuracy on both bikes (with GPS) and both are extremely accurate; I would hate to lose that. And (if you have it) does cruise and 6th gear light work properly?

Wish that could work for me . . . Thanks.

i did this a few years ago to my 07 e-glide. made the bike a whole lot more rideable in 6th gear, also a little quicker out of the hole. just bought the bolts from the dealer.
