Default 2017 road king oil cooler fan kit

I thought installing this should be easy, but I am wondering if I need some IKEA allen wrench to remove the stock oil cooler. there are two machine screws holding the stock cooler and 5/64 is too small and 3/32 is too big, so I thought metric, but 4mm is too big and 3mm too small. (besides it being almost impossible to get a straight shot. I know this sounds stupid, but what am I missing

I must admit that my close up vision is not as good as it used to be, but if sure does not seem to have the star pattern of a torx

There are half size metrics. I have a 3.5mm and see them online as well.

yeah, I see that as well. Frustrating as I had stopped at Lowes yesterday afternoon to get a couple of hex sets (most of my tools are on the other side of the red river) and sure enough it did not have 3.5. I see that the china shop does so I will stop by there after work this morning.

Why didn't HD just put the fan on the stock set up? Okay, that is a rhetorical question.

yeah, very surprising that in Oklahoma/Texas you might want to have the engine run cooler during the summer

I don't know if this will help, but the parts diagram shows a T-40 & T-27 Torx screws

so got it done.... today (when my eyes were not as tired) I could see it was a torx screw.

So here are some interesting observations. The oil hoses with the kit are identical to the hoses already on the bike. The left one is easy to remove, but it is the right one that needs a bunch of stuff off to reach it. My thought is, my bike is new, so why change a new hose. I left the right one on and just connected to the cooler.

other than the working area is cramped, it took less than 30 minutes.
