2003 harmon kardon help needed
Greetings everyone. Last fall I bought my first Harley, a 2003 ultra classic. I probably committed the classic noob blunder and bought something too old with too many miles but I fell in love with the bike at first sight. It's got a few issues and one that's got me stumped is the radio. According to what I've read you put the radio into diagnostic mode by pressing 2 soft keys. Mine goes into diagnostic mode with only holding one button down and shows a 0 in the first position, so it's like 011111. All the buttons seem to make the 0s and 1s change except the mode switch on the handlebar doesn't seem to do anything. I'm trying to eliminate the handlebar controls as a possible cause of the problems. I don't want to send the radio off to get fixed only to find the problem wasn't in the radio. Could a short in the mode switch cause a radio to become completely non functional? The radio lights up when powered up and the clock works (although I can't change the time) and thats it. No other displays, no buttons work or anything. Any troubleshooting tips you guys have would be appreciated.

If it is an 03 it isn't a harmon Kardon the radio is a Radio sound , unless someone changed it, and that could be the problem.
have you tried to plug in a phone or anything into the AUX port, and selecting aux with the hand controls?
A pic of the radio would help.
Radio sound can fix it if it is one of theirs , they are in Louisville KY.
You could ask them for troubleshooting ideas too.
