I only get a single use out of HD torx bolts.....for most operations I pre buy HD torx replacement bolts and throw away the bolts I remove. Doing an R&R on the derby cover, always have new bolts ready. New HD torx bolts are cheap and my Harley dealer is only 5 minutes away. They are pretty much crap but if brand new, will take a tightening without stripping. They are "one use only" in my book. I do use a torque wrench and blue loctite. I love the stainless button head allen bolts but so far have not found a reasonable priced place to buy them I bought two of a 3/8 X 1.5 inch stainless button head allen bolts for my belt guard and spent $21 including shipping...

Well it looks pretty divided between those who get them to last forever and ones like me who are one and done with these bolts lol. I do think they were way over torqued, again I didn't do the last service to this bike. I did get 25 SS Allen bolts for like 10$ so I'll use those for now, will put some anti seize on them for sure.

Not a bad idea at all, its hard to over tighten them that way.
For the others, make sure to use a torque wrench and you will never have a problem.

I really like Torx, matter of fact, my new shop is full of them, I use t
Torx screws to install all my OSB sheets on my walls and ceiling. Much easier than Phillips screws...

That's correct, just reinstalled it today and they worked out great.

I had 3 lose their torx seat....get yourself a hammer tool.. with the #27 torxs bit set the tool to loosen and while putting a twist to the left whack the hammer tool with (you guessed it) a hammer.......the bolts will spin out til you can use a regular socket or driver. The derby cover shouldn't be torqued very much, but some owners and/or wrenches seem too think it's the side of a steam engine and do what never should be done......torque the **** out of them. their only purpose is too seal a non pressurized enclosure.....some people think it's a frigging head gasket.

I stripped one once when I opened my primary up and learned a little trick. Put the bit in (making sure its a T27) and give it a tap with a little hammer. You will feel the bit seat into the screw. Never strip another one again
