Well that sucks! But at least you have several options depending on finances and your vision of the bike. None particularly cheap but some far more reasonable than others.
Personally, I'd never spend $6000 on a 10 yo bike whose value might be twice that. Though the s&s or a new crate motor would be nice... If your engine isn't totally wrecked there are also kits to upgrade it. But what I'd do is find a good used or take off motor with my preference being a 103HO take off. Low milage 96s can be had for $1500 or so and the 103s for around 2k. Of course if you can do your own labor you'll come out much more economically.
