Default S&S 585 cams in S&S 124" 10.8:1?

Hello, I am looking for a good cam for my near future S&S 124" build for my 2008 Eglide. Ride solo most of the time but occasionally like to throw someone on the back and take a cruise up through the mountains. Living at 5k feet elevation hurts my cranking compression but I haven't started yet so I'm not committed to any grind. I want to stay S&S for the convenience of EZ starts. If memory serves me correctly someone put 585 cams in his 124" with happy results.

S&S builds a low CR 124" with the 585 cam and my S&S 107" came with one one. It makes a great touring cam IMHO, but I'm not sure about that CR. My 107" is at around 9.5:1 and the 124LC is a little higher. Check specs on the S&S website. You could also contact S&S and ask them - they have always replied to my email queries promptly.

Blackstreak: Unfortunately nothing from me to add other than agreeing with Gordon that S&S is prompt and very good at responding.

Did want to tell you though that I think you live right in the middle of heaven on earth. I could settle there!

Good luck with your soon to be new motor, and carry on.......

I am aware of the LC 124, but I thought I read about someone putting the 585 can in the 10.8 cr 124.

I'm probably going to go with the 635 ho cams from S&S. The S&S tech dept agreed that the 635 h.o. would be better suited for me than the 640 cams. I was just looking for any experiences with the 635 cams or the 585 cams. I think his name was Revfasteddy who put the 585 in the HC124.

If you're planning to build up a 124 you could contact Scott at Hillside Cycles, he has plenty of experience from what I've seen.

The 585 cam is ****! IIRC when you start getting in the higher lift cams, your power band is coming on at high end, just where you dont ride 99% of the time. The 585 from the hole to redline, brings a smile everytime. YMMV

I'm sure you've heard the old saying 'It's all in the combination." George Smith at S&S has been putting them together
for a very long time. The standard S&S 124" with a bump in compression and slightly larger 640 cams is not that much
different in performance compared to his LC 585 cam version - just pulls harder everywhere. Look at the dyno numbers
and the standard 124" has 100 ft lbs at 2000rpm and a smooth rise to 150 ft lbs at 4000rpm. The horsepower curve is
equally smooth making 145 hp at 5500rpm and is flat and all done at 6500rpm. That certainly isn't what I'd call a high
end power band - it just pulls harder than the LC engine everywhere. Btw - love those East Start cams - no more
compression releases and tore up starters.
