Your intake flange looks like this;

As far as I can see S&S doesn't make one, or if they did, they don't any more.

Thanks Harkon. I think you are right. Found an old listing for one for the MM EFI but nothing recent. Probably not enough of us around to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the photo of the backplate. Very helpful. Might be that I can coax an S&S teardrop cover onto that. If not I'll adapt the foam and mesh filter I had on my Dyna. I can't get on with all this modern stuff the catalogues are full of. Too old.

Andy

I have to wonder ... the 'buzz' about the S&S teardrop is that it has a cone on the inside that fits into the venturi of the carb/intake, the theory being that it smooths the airflow, or reduces the "fog" that happens at the mouth as fuel/air mix is sucked in and stops.

With that FI system, you'd need a double cone or something for it too work as intended. Which probably would not work as, I am guessing, the two would reduce the effect of each other and would change the look.

Is it just the classic looks, and the S&S logo, or performance you are after?

If performance, a K&N or something filter in there would pretty much do as much or find something designed to fit.

Or buy a carb kit (which is going to be expensive).

I'm guess why this is why it's not listed.

I just like the classic look.

In general riding I doubt all the smooth airflow hype makes much difference. At WOT perhaps it has some effect but if I was bothered about going fast I'd be riding something else.

Once upon a time they made what I needed. In the meantime I've got my hands on a spare MM backplate that I can start chopping about - I mean use as the basis for my fabrication work.

Well done old chap - pushing forward the boundaries of custom tuning!
