HD Ultra Limited's loosing their flair
It seems that MoCo getting even cheaper on the FLHTK. I think it was 2017 they took out the CB. 2018 the two-tone paint models only have one color on the tour-pac. Can hardly wait for the 2019's to show up.

Between the new "look" and potential engine problems, coupled with warranty issues with even a slip on aftermarket muffler it's not likely I'll be buying a new HD anytime soon.

Probably a mistake to assume: Quite likely the CB component was removed due to communication trends. With Bluetooth capability, voice recog, smart phones, etc.... it seems the days of the CB could be short. I'm not saying they aren't useful...just that it might only be 20% of new bagger riders that care about it. The big baggers are all about progressive technologies.

I'm not surprised by losing the CB, as I don't know anyone who has used it for many years. Paint certainly seems to have gone backwards for a while now. Its a sorry state of affairs when the only 2-tone scheme that does not include black or grey is red. Whatever happened to the rest of the spectrum?!

Most presumably it’s all about the metrics (not import bikes, rather numbers analysis) that HD uses to determine consumer trend. In a hypothetical example, if 10,000 FLHTK’s are sold and only 200 of those consumers actually wanted/use the CB then it would make more sense economically and otherwise to offer the CB as an option and not standard. As for the paint, it is probably similar, as well as including other factors such as cost, etc.

But it's your call and your money how you spend it. A very happy M8 owner. |
I well remember when 2-tone paint was an extremely popular option on pickup trucks in the '70s and '80s. Then the trend went away. Manufacturers began dropping it because the option lost popularity. Of course there will always be 2-tone trucks and Harleys, but I have to wonder if sales data and trends indicate a buying shift away from the traditional 2-tone Harley paint in full baggers.

CB is history very few want anything to do with them. It was time for them to become an option

I agree CBs have opsolete for a very long time now being a truck Driver with a fleet of 30 units in our yard only one has a CB. You can still get one just have pay for it, I am fine with my Ultra no problems here. All manufacturers of motorcycles have problems with units and they all act the same to get them repaired part of the game. Harleys just the biggest and going threw some tuff times changing with the times and the old school looks. New riders aren’t buying there stuff and the older rider dont want change. MoCo will fine a happy medium to stay in the game.

I do not use my CB either, my point is that MoCo is getting cheaper. What if in 2019 they take away (just an example) the heated grips? Just looks like a pattern to cut down the costs; I understand. Maybe MoCo blew their wad in 2014 when they introduced the Rushmore Limited. Hence the old saying, "they do not make them like they use too."
