Default Can you replace passing light bulbs with LED

I have a 2010 EG Classic that needs a passing light buld HD 68453-05. I see LED replacements from places like DK and wanting to know will they work as stock replacement? Has anyone tried these or recommend a better bulb. I do have LEDs for front and back turn signals now.

Replacing old style bulbs with LED substitutes is a bit of a lottery! Many of them are larger than the old bulbs and don't provide a similar beam shape, indeed some don't form a beam at all. It's a while ago since I first looked into replacements, gave up on cheap substitutes and bought myself a set of Trucklite integral units. At least they are designed from the outset to provide good quality light and beams.

I still cannot find replacement H3 LEDs for my Harley foglights, none I've found so far will even go inside the light housings! So take care with what you buy. It is too easy to install bulbs which cause flare and dazzle other motorists. My main recommendation is to avoid cheap solutions.

I’ve used these in my TriGkide and Road King, very happy with them bright with good beam pattern.

These are a direct replacement for HD Passing Lights, part # 68453-05-

Here's a comparison photo-

Here's a LINK to those bulbs.

Hope to have been some help!

I got the set from Fuel moto. They have been in for over a year now and love them. While you have everything apart, put some alcohol/water mix inside all the light assemblies and then let them dry and they look and shine even better.

While those DK lights appear to be significantly brighter in that picture, what stands out to me is they look like they are a completely different light frequency. I can't tell if they're actually brighter or just a different color. If DK can provide some lumen information for their bulb vs stock I think it would be more telling.

the issue as stated above by GRBROWN is actual beam pattern.. drop in LEDs just don't have the required pattern or distance that a stock light does.. it was for this reason that I went with trucklites all the way across on my FLD.. you get the pattern and distance of the stock bulbs but much brighter..

this was the best video I have found to date to show you the difference between lumens and lux

Beam pattern is THE PROBLEM. The drop in LEDs I tried in the passing lights had NO beam at all. They were bright but no more effective in helping ME see than just hanging the bare bulbs on the end of the wire. The pictures of the light fixtures with the LEDs installed are nice, BUT why does no one ever take another pic or 2 showing the light pattern on a wall? Being easily seen by other drivers is life and death important but if you actually ride AT NIGHT, you need a well controlled beam of light to make sure YOU can see what is out there but not blind other drivers. Placing the LED chips in EXACTLY the right place to recreate the light pattern made by the halogen bulbs (only much brighter) seems to be beyond the capability of the manufacturers. If the sales pitch doesn't include a picture of the bream projected by drop in LED in question, don't waste your time and money.
