Default Water Pump ?

2015 Limited with 16K. Had a 200 mile trip planned for today. 10 miles from home the Temp & CEL light comes on. Pull over check the fluid, it's good. Take it back to the house. Get home check to see if the fans and water pump are running. All good. Lights are now off. Decide to run the bike around town to see if the Temp & CEL light come back on. 60 miles later no lights. Any ideas ?

You don't need a scan tool.
You can test the pump and fans by turning the Ignition switch to run and roll the throttle to halfway, the pump and fans will come on in a couple seconds. You can feel the pump to see if it is running. Just turn Ign Sw off to stop them. If they don't come on check the cooling fuse and relay.

The water pumps are not direct drive, rather they are magnetically driven and are known to stall from congealed coolant. Maybe yours stalled then freed up?

A flush might be a good idea.

Ever had an issue with coolant congealing. But as was stated, the pump is magnetic and DOES FAIL. if it happens again then do a self test on the pump/fans.
Turn run switch to run (do not start bike)

Roll throttle to WOT position and hold until fans run, then roll back throttle to idle (takes a couple seconds for fans to come on after holding to WOT)

Both fans will run as well as water pump

To stop test, turn run switch to off

You can put your hand on the pump itself and feel/hear it running or not. Also make sure the coolant level is correct.

Yes, I did the test when I returned home. Thats how I knew fans and pump were running. Coolant flush sounds like a good idea, going by the dealer for a state inspection this week anyway. It just seemed strange, did 120 miles yesterday with no issue. Head out this morning and 10 miles down the road I get the Temp and CEL. Back home checked the fans and pump, everthying working. Decided to run around town to see if I get the same warning lights. 60 miles later and no warning lights.

This was the congealed coolant that siezed the pump on my '15 Limited...

The system never had anything but factory coolant in it, failed at about 2 years, 20k miles.

Full disclosure... I had never drained/flushed the system, but then... I've never seen coolant congeal either.

Early production plagued with leaks, now later production getting gummed up. Can't help but start to ask why anyone would want a Steaming Eagle. Is $50/gallon for MOCO coolant still not enough for really good stuff?
